This concert presents choral and instrumental works composed in England in the seventeenth century. The lives of the featured composers of the choral works span more than 100 years, beginning with Thomas Tomkins (1572 – 1656) and his contemporary Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625), and ending with Henry Purcell (1659 - 1695), and illustrate the transition of English music from Renaissance practices to those of the Baroque era.
